In such cases, you are creating an aggregation.
In the following example, we are going to create a simple count of employees that
work at a particular office, using the BIRT Aggregation component.
1. Create a new report called employeeCount.rptDesign.
2. Create a new Data Source based on the Classic Cars Data Source.
3. Create a new Data Set called employeeList.
4. Use the following query:
select
CLASSICMODELS.EMPLOYEES.EMPLOYEENUMBER,
CLASSICMODELS.EMPLOYEES.LASTNAME,
CLASSICMODELS.EMPLOYEES.FIRSTNAME,
CLASSICMODELS.EMPLOYEES.OFFICECODE
from
CLASSICMODELS.EMPLOYEES
5. Drag the employeeList Data Set over to the Report Designer.
6. Select the new Table, and under the Property Editor, select Groups.
7. Create a new Group called groupByOffice, and Group on the OfficeCode.
