"Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT"

This will list all the Groupings in the Table.
When you click on 1, it will bring you to that section of the report, and so on.
Working with Data
[ 106 ]
If you create other Groupings, they will appear as sub-groupings under the TOC.
In the following screenshot, I added a Group by the Last Name; keep this in mind if
you are designing reports for online consumption.
Crosstab
New to BIRT version 2.2 is the Crosstab component. A Crosstab is a type of report
component that displays data in a row/column matrix, with summary information
in the areas that cross. Crosstabs are useful for comparing two variables (for instance,
number of BIRT users with some other variable such as number of users who like
Muppets). The data would be laid out in a summary format that is similar to a
Spreadsheet. The number of variables compared is not limited to two.
Chapter 5
[ 107 ]
In the following example, we will create a simple Crosstab that displays the yearly
and monthly sales figures compared to the employees who sold them.
1. Create a new report called simpleCrosstab.rptDesign, under the
Class_Cars_BIRT_Reports project.
2. Create a new Data Source and use the Classic Cars Inc. Sample Database.
Call this Data Source classicCarsDataSource.
3. In order to create the simple Crosstab, we need to bring in at least three
variables??”the Employee, the Price, and the Date??”of an order.
