Mary Knape taught private art classes in my area, and, on a whim, I signed up for one of
her night classes about 15 years ago. Little did I know her teachings would send my understanding
of color into overdrive. She had a real gift for making even the most hard-tograsp
concepts a walk in the park.
Shortly after my classes with Knape, I went off to college, where my luck continued and I
received training from some of the best designers and illustrators. Then I was off to join the
workforce, where I thought my training would come to an end. I couldn??™t have been more
wrong! I had a real thirst for knowledge and found that my education had just begun.
I started working in new areas like interactive design and multimedia, which required that
I pick up new skills??”which of course meant new things to learn. It was also at this time
that I caught the 3D bug and purchased my first copy of LightWave 3D. At this time, 3D
was still new territory, so there were no classes being offered that I could take to get a
jumpstart.Having never really worked in 3D, I moved pretty slowly until 1996, when I was
introduced to my first 3D instructor, Dan Ablan.
