"Inside LightWave v9"

Exercise 4.3 Enhanced Lighting Setups
1. Continue from the previous scene.
2. On the Render tab, open the Render Globals panel, then click the Global
Illumination panel (labeled Global Illum). Turn on Enable Radiosity.
Before you do anything else, press F9 to see the difference in the render. The
dark areas behind the teacup are now brighter and softly lit (Figure 4.20).
Figure 4.20 The large white polygon acts as a light source when Radiosity is applied to the render.
3. You can see that the bright white polygon acts as a light source when Radiosity is
applied to the render. This feature calculates indirect illumination, and essentially
is bouncing (or diffusing) the rays of light in the scene. Since the board is 100 percent
luminous, this object acts like a reflector. If you??™ve ever worked with a photographer
or videographer, you might have noticed an assistant holding a big
board or round, metallic-looking disc opposite of the key light on a subject.
Figure 4.20, however, looks a bit noisy, doesn??™t it? Click the Noise Reduction
option on the Render tab in the Render Globals panel.
4. Next, select the Global Illumination tab in the Render Globals panel, and set the
Rays Per Evaluation setting to 9?—27.
