Adaptive sampling is a flexible threshold that
LightWave employs to evaluate the edges in your scene. Lower values evaluate more,
enabling a more accurate antialiasing routine. Higher values evaluate less. A default setting
of 0.1 is an average threshold value. Changing this to 0.01, for example, adds to your
render times but helps to produce a cleaner render. A good way to work with adaptive
sampling is to set a higher antialiasing setting, with a not-so-low threshold. For example,
Enhanced Medium antialiasing, with a Threshold setting of 0.1, renders reasonably well
(depending on your scene) and produces nice-looking images. For more details on adaptive
sampling, refer to your LightWave manual.
Soft Filter
As an additional help to eliminate sharp, unwanted edges in a scene, you can turn on the
Soft Filter option in the Camera Properties panel. As an alternative to setting higher
antialiasing routines, you can set a lower antialiasing with Soft Filter applied. Soft Filter
adds a small blur to your render, creating a ???soft-focus??? look that can make some renders
appear too blurry. Its settings are either on or off.
