Advanced Camera
The Advanced Camera, new to LightWave v9, allows you to re-create lenses and real cameras
normally not found in 3D applications.
For instance, the Advanced Camera option lets you define objects (mesh items) as cameras
so you can obtain an entirely different look and gain more control than you could
with a normal camera. For example, you can??™t really distort a camera, but with an object
set up as a camera, that object can be bent, distorted, warped, and so forth, thereby distorting
what your camera sees. Quite cool!
Figure 5.39 shows the same shot as Figure 5.38 but rendered using the Advanced Camera
option to set up the car windshield as a camera. That??™s right, the windshield!
Figure 5.39 The Advanced Camera is a multipurpose camera, and one of the features
is defining an object as a camera. Here, the windshield of the car shown in
Figure 5.38 is now set up as a camera. What the car sees, you see.
The Advanced Camera option also lets you create spherical cameras. This allows you to
render an entire scene in a spherical shape, sort of like a severe fish-eye lens. The advantage
becomes clear when you??™re creating HDR (high-dynamic range) images.
