This chapter discusses what to do with those E??™s when you click on them.
The Graph Editor that opens when you click on an E button also gives you control over
every channel of an item, such as the X position, heading rotation, dissolves, light color,
and so on, all over a set duration. Each channel can be controlled through the use of
expressions, modifiers, or even keyframes, all from within the Graph Editor. The Graph
Editor is used to edit any type of parameter that can be enveloped, or as the nontechnical
folk like to say, animated. In this chapter, you will learn about the following:
?—? Creating motion with keyframes
?—? Understanding motion splines
?—? Adjusting motions
?—? Working with the Graph Editor
Note
Creating Motions with Keyframes
You might think that the title of this section is redundant. Creating motions with
keyframes? Duh! How else would you do it? Well, actually there are many ways in
LightWave v9 to create motions without keyframes: procedural motions, expressions, and
of course dynamics. Dynamics enable you to move one item and have it affect another
item. Or, you can just add gravity to an object and watch it move.
