The Merge tool
will combine the duplicate sets of points into one.
33. Press m for Merge. In the dialog box that appears
(Figure 9.34), leave the Range set to Automatic
and click OK. This fuses each pair of identically
positioned points into one and ???seals up??? the iPod
model (Figure 9.35).
Figure 9.35 After the merge, the base iPod is ready for final details.
34. Save your model. It??™s not a bad idea at this point to save an incremental version by
pressing Shift+s.
What you??™ve done so far might have been a bit tedious, but the results are worth
it. The model is simple and clean and will render quick and look good. But what
will make the model look even better are the smaller details in the edges. Read on
to create additional details.
Figure 9.34 Using the
Merge command, you can
quickly remove the extra
points that are keeping the
newly created polygon as a
separate object.
Details, Details
Too often, people getting into 3D think that you need a ton of polygons to build a greatlooking
model. This is not often the case, and in fact, less is usually more. This next project
will help you build the details by beveling and then creating a copy of the LCD panel
to serve as its protective glass covering.
