1 Using Geometric Shapes to Build the Penguin Body
Each project you encounter is different. That also means that your approach to modeling
changes based on the task at hand. You might hear 3D artists claim that box modeling is the
only method to use and that you must start with the eyes. Others swear by spline curves and
start with the head, working their way down to the details. But locking into any one technique
for everything is like eating the same meal every day: It gets boring, and it??™s not the
right thing to do. For a cute penguin, two characteristics stand out: the body and the eyes.
The eyes for this project will go in last, as you need a body and head reference before you
can build them. So for this project, you??™ll start by modeling the penguin??™s body.
