"Inside LightWave v9"

12 When subpatch mode is active, the primitive shapes are much smoother.
24. Save your model.
You can see that working with very simple primitive shapes is easy??”obviously since there
is less geometry to work with. However, it??™s not hard to create smooth-flowing characters
once subpatch mode is active. You can toggle the use of subpatch mode as you build,
which is one of the great features of LightWave. You??™re not forced to just apply it and leave
it, but you can toggle it on and off. It??™s often easier to work with subpatches off, but the
choice is yours.
But you??™re not nearly finished yet. Read on to start building the penguin??™s flippers, feet,
and eyes.
Exercise 10.2 Giving the Penguin Flippers
It??™s important to remember that the techniques in this chapter can be applied to just about
any character you create. For example, you could build a giraffe??™s legs, or a cat??™s paws, using
methods like these. Taking things a step further (pun intended), you could build a troll,
elf, or other human-type form. This next section will show you how to create the penguin??™s
flippers using tools in the Multiply tab.
