"Inside LightWave v9"

The eyes evoke
emotion, and they are going to be a large part of this character.
1. Continuing from your saved project, press Shift+s to save an incremental version
of your penguin character.
2. Turn Symmetry off for this next part; you??™ll model each eye separately to give the
penguin an expressive look. But first, you??™ll create an eye socket. Select the three
polygons at the base of the head, on the right side, as shown in Figure 10.42.
Figure 10.42 Start to create the eye socket by selecting three polygons at the base of the head.
3. Select the Multishift tool on the Multiply tab, then click and drag to inset and
shift the polygons. Don??™t worry about how deep to inset the geometry??”the
idea is that you??™re creating a small cavity for the eye to rest in, about 300mm.
Figure 10.43 on the next page shows the effect.
Figure 10.43 Use Multishift to bevel in the multiple polygons to create the eye socket.
Note
4. Select the Drag tool (Ctrl+t) and pull the sides of the eye-socket polygons outward
to round out the eye socket, as shown in Figure 10.44. Just click and drag on
the points, and use the shaded Perspective view as your guide.
