Chapter 10 Character Modeling 439
Figure 10.51 Using the Drag tool to smooth out the polygons, you can blend the eyelid with
the head.
17. Go ahead and repeat the previous steps to create the eyelid for the right side of
the penguin. Start by selecting a few polygons, use the Multishift tool, and then
use the Drag tool to shape. Figure 10.52 shows the two eyes with eyelids.
Figure 10.52 Create the second eyelid, tweak to taste, and save your work.
18. Save your work!
Just a little more to go, and the surfacing will begin. You??™ll soon start to see the
character taking on a personality.
19. Select the four polygons that lie directly between the bottom halves of the eyes, as
shown in Figure 10.53.
Figure 10.53 Select these four polygons to begin creating the beak.
20. Using Multishift again, click and drag to pull out a beak for the penguin. It is a
bird, after all! Overdoing it with Multishift might make the beak look a bit like a
botched nose job, so only bevel out the polygons a small amount. Figure 10.54
shows the operation.
Figure 10.54 Use Multishift to bevel out the beak.
