Edit Nodes
You access the Node Editor through
the Surface Editor panel??™s Edit Nodes
button. Figure 11.1 shows the Surface
Editor with an object loaded and the
Edit Nodes button toward the top of
the panel.
When you click the Edit Nodes button,
a blank panel opens up (Figure 11.2)
and you??™re left wondering, ???Where do
I begin???? Before we answer that question,
it will help you immensely to
understand what a node is and what
nodes do.

What in the World Is a Node?
A LightWave Surface node is similar to a node on a computer network??”one of a series
of linked devices that share information and contribute to collaborative work. Imagine,
for instance, an office network. Tom might be busy at node 1, creating 3D graphics for an
upcoming TV show; Nancy might be at node 2, creating the show??™s end credits; and at
node 3, Robert might be editing video for the program??”and eagerly awaiting the graphics
that Tom and Nancy are creating.
