Exercise 11.1 Building a Basic Node System
1. Open LightWave Layout. If it??™s already open, save your work and then clear the
scene from the File menu.
2. On the Items tab, select Null from the Add category, as shown in Figure 11.3.

3. Give your null a name if you like, then click OK to close the panel.
4. Next, click the Modeler Tools tab. Click the Geometry drop-down (in the Create
tool category) and choose Toroid, as shown in Figure 11.4.

5. In the Torus panel that appears, click OK to use the default settings.
You??™ve just used Layout??™s Modeler tools, which allow you to quickly add simply
geometry to Layout without the need to fire up LightWave Modeler. This is useful
for creating stand-in objects for animation tests, simple shading tests, and any
other application where a primitive shape might come in handy. To add a new
shape with the Modeler tools, your scene must contain a null object, and it must
be selected when you apply tools from Layout??™s Modeler tab.
