6. Open the Surface Editor from the top left of the interface. You??™ll see the object
name (currently null) and one surface labeled default. The default surface is the
torus. You can click the Rename button at the top of the interface if you like, but
the name is not important at this point.
7. Now that you have an object with at least one surface,
you??™re ready for some nodes! Click the Edit
Nodes button at the top of the Surface Editor, as
shown in Figure 11.5.
8. When you open the Node Editor by clicking the Edit Nodes button, you might
find the panel a bit small. Grab the bottom-right corner and resize it to your liking.
When you??™re satisfied, take a look at the panel and you??™ll see a node already in
place. Yes, that column of information is a node??”or at least the LightWave representation
of a node. This is the default surface node for output. You??™ll add nodes

in the Node Editor and attach them to this existing node to apply them to your
object surface. Figure 11.6 shows the resized Node Editor.
