Working through a project will help you understand the use of outputs and inputs, so
let??™s move on to the next exercise, in which you??™ll build a more complex node network.
When that??™s done, you??™ll call up the still-life project from Chapter 8 and texture it with
the Node Editor.
Exercise 11.2 Working with Outputs and Inputs
1. Save anything you??™ve been working on, and clear LightWave Layout.
2. Load up the Capsules scene from the Projects\Scenes\CH11\Capsules directory of
the book??™s DVD. The scene contains three capsules on a floor, which is a flat polygon.
There are four surfaces in the scene and two lights. There are also two large
white polygons out of camera view that will act as reflectors. Figure 11.19 shows
the scene loaded, and Figure 11.20 shows the results of rendering by pressing F9.

Figure 11.20 After rendering, you can see that, although the objects are well lit, no surface
materials are applied to them.
3. Open the Surface Editor and select the Capsule_1 surface.
