49 Setting the Gradient Input setting
to Y Coordinate changes the effect of the
subsurface Kappa node.
Chapter 11 Node-Based Texturing 479
23. Press 5 on your keyboard or numeric keypad to jump to a Light view.
24. Press t to select Move, and move the light behind the third capsule. Figure 11.50
shows the view from the light.
Figure 11.50 Add a spotlight and position it behind the third capsule.
25. Now that you have a light behind
the capsule, you might want this to
be the primary light. So, open the
Node Editor again (if you hid panels
in step 21, you can press Tab to
unhide). For the Capsule_3 surface,
double-click the Kappa node
and change Mode from Forward to
Backward. This tells LightWave
that the primary light is from
behind. Press F9 to render a single
frame, and your objects surface
will really glow with light. Figure
11.51 shows the example.
26. Change some values, play with inputs, and see what kind of variations you can
come up with. Then, save your work.
Figure 11.51 Changing the Mode setting for
the subsurface scattering node from Forward
to Backward uses the new light as its main
source for calculation.
