Select the Items tab at the
top of Layout and, from the Add category, add a Null object to the scene.
This Null object is your base, or root, object. Even though bones need to be associated
with an object, the object can be just a Null object.
Tip
Instead of clicking away from the Setup tab to the Items tab to add a Null object from
the Items tab, you can always just press Ctrl+n on your keyboard to quickly add a
Null object.

2. Rename the Null object if you like, but the default name ???Null??? is fine.With the
Null object selected (as the only object in the scene, it??™s selected by default), click
the Setup tab. Then from the Add category, select Bone and then Add Bone.
LightWave asks you to rename the bone. Just click OK for now.
You??™ll see a 1m bone, like the one in Figure 12.1, extending along the Z-axis from
the Null object??™s position at the origin point (Figure 12.2).

Next, you??™ll set up a chain of bones by adding ???child??? bones to the one you just
