You rotated
it upward so that the rotational pivot point of the bone was at the middle of the body, similar
to a hip. Now you??™ll create a similar hierarchy pointing downward into the base and
feet of the penguin.
Exercise 12.4 Setting Up Multiple Hierarchies
1. Select the Penguin object. Then, on the
Setup tab, click Bone in the Add category.
Name it Base. Note that this does not create
a child to the Body bone but rather a new
individual bone.Move and rotate the Base
bone so it rests just below the Body bone,
essentially mirroring it, as in Figure 12.15.
2. With your new Base bone still selected,
choose Child Bone from the Setup tab??™s Add
tool category and enter RightFoot as the
name for the child bone.
3. Press 1 to switch to a front view. Press y to
activate the Rotate tool and rotate the child
bone (the RightFoot bone) until its heading
is -90 degrees. You can do so by dragging
the red rotation handle, or by pressing n to
enter the value numerically at the bottom-left corner of the interface.
4. With the RightFoot bone selected, press p to open the Bone Properties panel and
set the Rest Length value to about 655mm, so that the tip of the bone is at the
center of the right foot (Figure 12.
