Higher exponential settings, ranging from
2 to 128, cause the influence to fade far more rapidly and concentrate the applied weight
proportionately closer to the bone itself.
Additive
If you turn on the Additive option, the Bone Weights settings are automatically applied
to all bones with the same name??”a big time-saver for every bone named ???spine??? in a seaurchin
model, or even both ???shin??? bones in a human figure.
Threshold Value
The Threshold Value setting defines a capsule-shaped ???border,??? a fixed distance from a
bone, at which the bone??™s weight settings cease or change. Its setting value is a distance, the
radius of influence, expressed in meters (or millimeters).
Use Threshold
The four options for this setting determine how a bone??™s influence on an object??™s weight map
changes at the edge of the ???capsule??? defined by its Threshold Value setting. The Off setting
means the Threshold Value setting is ignored. The Clip setting sets weight values for all points
outside the threshold to 0. The Subtract option causes weight values to fade to 0 at the threshold
distance, then continues decreasing weight values (by assigning them negative values) at
distances greater than the Threshold Value setting.
