Figure 12.32 An existing model is loaded into Modeler and ready to have weights assigned to it.
In Exercise 12.4, you created two four-bone hierarchies, each consisting of
a top legbone, an anklebone, and two foot bones.
Now you only need to set up some weight maps
for these hierarchies, and your model will deform
properly in Layout.
2. Choose Polygons Selection mode by clicking the
Polygons button at the bottom of the Modeler interface.
Next, press the Tab key to turn off SubPatch
mode to make the model easier to work with. You??™ll
turn it back on again when you??™ve finished.
3. Press w to open the Statistics panel. Toward the bottom
of the panel, click the Surface listing. This will
show you all of the penguin??™s surfaces you created
when you built the character in Modeler. Select the
Feet surface, as shown in Figure 12.33.
Figure 12.33 Use the
Statistics panel to select
just the Feet surface of
the penguin.
4. You want to weight each foot separately, so right-click (Cmd-click on the Mac)
and drag to lasso the polygons in the character??™s left foot and deselect them.
Figure 12.34 shows the selection performed in the Top view.
