5. With the polygons of the right foot
selected, click the W button at the bottom
of the Modeler interface (next to
the T, M, C, and S buttons) to choose
Weight mode. In the drop-down list
next to these buttons (which reads
(none)), select [new], as in Figure 12.35.
The Create Weight Map panel appears.
You??™ll use it to assign a weight map to
the selected polygons.
6. In the Name box, type
Penguin_RightFoot. Keep the Initial
Value option checked and leave its value
at 100%, as shown in Figure 12.36.

You??™ve now created a weight map for the right foot of the Penguin object, but if
you remember, there are four bones in the entire leg??”well, at least if you can call
it a leg??¦ Are you wondering why bones are mentioned here? Good question!
While weight maps can be used for many things in LightWave, such as controlling
textures, you can also use them to control bone influences.
