By setting up a weight
map in Modeler and giving it the same name as a bone, you tell Layout that the
specified bone should only deform the portion of the model defined by that
weighted map. For example, a weight map named RightFoot will automatically be
associated with the bone named RightFoot. LightWave will automatically apply the
weight map in Layout.
This is a good time to change your Perspective view (or any view) to Weight Shade
render view mode. When you view your model in Weight Shade mode (selected
from the top of each viewport), you can see the weight applied as bright red.
7. Deselect the right foot polygons, and select the left foot polygons. Select [new]
again from the drop-down next to the S button to create a weight map for this
selection. Enter the name Penguin_LeftFoot, as shown in Figure 12.37.
Figure 12.37 Another weight map is added to the left foot of the Penguin object.
You can assign weight maps to selected polygons or points, but if you apply a
weight map to selected polygons, you are really applying the weight to the points
of the selected polygons. Selecting polygons over points (or vice versa) for setting
weight maps is your choice.
