In the point-by-point approach, you single-line
polygons (pairs of points connected by either a line polygon or a curve) to Skelegons. The
Draw Skelegons feature is a fast, easy way to create a skeletal structure, and it is the focus
of the next exercise.
Exercise 12.7 Creating Skelegons
This exercise uses an existing model to demonstrate how quick and easy it is to set up a
full hierarchy for a human character. Using the bone weight information from the previous
exercises and the Skelegons information provided here, you??™ll be moving a fully articulated
character in no time. However, you??™re going to use an automatic feature in
LightWave to automatically apply weights to the character. The trick is keeping the
Skelegons in the same layer as the geometry. However, for the purpose of providing visual
examples, this tutorial shows you the Skelegons in a separate layer.
1. In LightWave v9 Modeler, save any work you might have been doing and create a
new object by pressing Shift+n.
2. From this book??™s DVD, load the BlueGirl object (Projects\Objects\CH12\
bluegirl.lwo). This is a killer model that is easy to rig, thanks to our cover
creator??”William ???Proton???Vaughan.
