Chapter 12 Bones and Rigging 529
Figure 12.41 Create the first Skelegon, which will be the parent bone of the upper
body hierarchy.
Note
5. With the initial Skelegon still selected, simply click above it to create an additional
Skelegon reaching to the base of the neck. This Skelegon will become a child bone
later in Layout (Figure 12.42).
Figure 12.42 Create a second Skelegon that leads to the base of the neck.
Be careful to click and drag just once. It??™s very common for people to click, let go of
the mouse, and then click and drag again. Although you can??™t see it, doing that creates
a tiny little bone that will haunt you later in Layout.
6. Now click again, further up the neck, to create
yet another Skelegon (Figure 12.43).
7. Click once more, at the top of the head,
to create one more Skelegon and finish
the hierarchy.
Each Skelegon should start and end at a
joint within the character. For example, the
Skelegon for the head should begin at the
base of the head and end at the crown.
When the Skelegon becomes a bone in
LightWave Layout and is activated, it will
rotate from that base, which will then rotate
the head.
