"Inside LightWave v9"

If you assign a weight map you create in Modeler the same name as a Skelegon, you automatically
apply the map to that Skelegon (and to the bone it will become upon conversion
in Layout).
Note
After your model is loaded into Layout with Skelegons, you can simply select the Cvt Skelegons
command from the Setup Menu tab.A pop-up window will tell you how many Skelegons were
converted to bones. From there, your bones will be visible and usable in Layout.
Note
Beyond this exercise, you can select portions of the model to assign weight maps just as
you did with the Penguin object earlier in this chapter and then apply the bones in Layout.
If Layout has Expert mode set from the General Options tab in the Preferences panel,
you don??™t see a Skelegons to Bones conversion message. Instead, it is highlighted in
the status bar underneath the timeline at the bottom of the interface.
LightWave v9??™s bone tools are too powerful and versatile to cover in just one chapter,
so be sure to check out all the cool video tutorials for this chapter (and others) available
as a free download from www.3dgarage.com. Learn about new bone tools for
LightWave v9 and the new IK Boost tool.
