"Inside LightWave v9"

Orthographic Camera
The Orthographic Camera is a little tricky to explain.We covered this camera in Chapter 5;
however, this section is here to refresh your memory.When you render a scene, LightWave
shoots out ???rays.???These rays are used to calculate all sorts of things, such as shadows, reflections,
and so on.You have more control over these rays in LightWave v9 than anytime before,
and the Orthographic Camera is just one way to work with different rays. Rather than rays
bouncing all over the scene,with the Orthographic Camera their directions are the same. So
what does that really mean? It means that you can create a camera with a forced perspective.
Perhaps you??™re a designer working in AutoCAD or Pro/E. You would use the
Orthographic Camera for engineering-type renders or for shots in which you need to see
more of the model in a single render. If a perspective created from a wider camera might take
away from the object or scene you??™re rendering, the Orthographic Camera might do the
trick. Before this camera was implemented in LightWave v9, artists would often pull the
camera far away from the scene and then zoom in to create a similar look.
