The advantage of doing something like this is perhaps
for creating high dynamic range (HDR) images. Or, perhaps you want to render a shot of
an interior, save it out, and use it later in another scene as a background environment.Using
objects as cameras, you can obtain an entirely different look and gain more control than
with a normal camera. For example, you can??™t really distort a camera, but with an object set
up as a camera, that object can be bent, distorted, warped, and so forth, thereby distorting
what your camera sees. Follow Exercise 15.1 to set up your own Advanced Camera.
Exercise 15.1 Using the Advanced Camera
Take a look at Figure 15.1, and you??™ll see the Advanced Camera panel, which is accessed
by choosing the option for the dropdown
menu at the top of the Camera
Properties panel.
The Advanced Camera tool allows you to
create custom camera lenses. While a
typical camera in LightWave offers
zooms or wide-angle shots, you can??™t
really use an object as a camera unless
you parent the camera to the object. For
example, let??™s say you??™ve animated a
character who??™s suddenly getting sleepy.
