As you can see, it??™s not very difficult to cast shadows in composited images. There
are a few more things that will help integrate the vase into the background image.
Figure 16.27 After the light is in place and shadows are turned on, the Vase object is now
more closely integrated into the background image.
9. Add another distant light to the scene. Name it fill light or something similar.
10. Make sure the new light is selected, and press the p key to call up the Light Properties
panel. Change the Light Type to Area Light. Then, set the Light Intensity to 60%.
Change the Light Color to a soft blue, about R: 220, G: 225, B: 240??”something
along the lines of the sky. The lower light intensity is important because area
lights are much brighter than distant lights.
11. Reposition the light so that it casts shadows on the top and front side of the vase,
as in Figure 16.28. Be sure to create a keyframe for the light to lock it in place.
Then, press Shift+h for the size tool, and resize the light to about 8.5. You can reference
the numeric values in the lower left of the interface. Increasing the light's
size creates a softer shadow when using an area light.
