"Inside LightWave v9"

Figure 16.28 A repositioned area light helps create softer shadows.
12. You might have noticed that changing the light also changes the ground polygon
that you made to catch the shadow. So, in the Surface Editor, add more luminosity
to the foyer_shadow surface, about 45%.
13. Save the scene.
14. Select the PlanterMask object you made in Exercise 16.2. Press p to open the
Object Properties panel (if it??™s not already open). Selecting an object after a light
with a Properties panel open simply makes the panel change over.
15. In the Object Properties panel for the planter mask object, select the Render tab.
At the bottom of the panel, turn off Self Shadow, Cast Shadow, and Receive
Shadow. This object needs none of these, and keeping them checked on might
cause an accidental shadow on the vase. Figure 16.29 shows the panel.

Figure 16.29 Make sure that only the objects that are supposed to be casting shadows are
doing so. Here, the shadows are turned off for the PlanterMask object in the
Object Properties panel.
16. Press F9 again to render a frame.
