To expand even further on the powerful
plug-ins throughout LightWave, here are a few more references for you when
creating surfaces and rendering.
Technical Reference
This section of the appendix consists of various charts and tables that come in handy
when you??™re trying to find that particular property or specification that you swore you
knew but just can??™t seem to remember. It consists of the following:
?—? RGB color values
?—? Reflection properties
?—? Refraction properties
?—? Color temperatures of light
?—? Film output resolutions
?—? Video output resolutions
It can??™t be stressed enough that the following information should be used as a guideline
only! The scientific world routinely deals in absolutes. However, animators do not. The
information presented here should be used as a starting point only. Feel free to adjust any-
thing as necessary to achieve the look you are going for. Don??™t worry that your diamond
doesn??™t have the exact refraction value of a real diamond. If it looks better tweaked higher
or lower, do it! If your banana looks kind of funky with the ???proper??? banana color, change
it! There are no hard and fast rules, and in the end, the only thing that really matters is that
you and your client are happy with the end result.
